Open Question: This might sound a little ignorant, but a question about Irish teenagers?

I'm going to Ireland for a year. I'm going to be 16-17. I drink, and I was wondering if Irish teenagers drink underage, or if they're more respectful of the 18 year age limit there? I'm American.
